The Fruehlingsfest, lovingly called “Octoberfest’s little sister”, is leading off the funfairs in Munich. The enjoyment for the whole family runs two weeks and will fill Munich’s Theresienwiese with fairground rides, beer tents and live music.

The Munich Spring Festival started in 1965 and many of the vendors are still represented.

The festival kicks off with a big parade and “Boellerschuetzen”, shooting with mini hand-cannons into the air.

Honorary Patron for the first time will be Major Josef Schmid, he will lead the opening ceremony.

Insider’s Tip for the visitors of the Spring Festival ‘Frühlingsfest’ in Munich:

Sensational view of the festival area from high above

The neo-gotic church of St. Paul is situated adjacent to the Theresienwiese.
St. Pauls Church was designed by Georg von Hauberrisser. Construction started 1896 and was completed 1906. During the Frühlingsfest the church will open its bell-tower to the public. If you are willing to climb the stairs leading to the platform (70 m high, aprox. 230 feet), you’ll have a breathtaking view of the festival area and the city of Munich. If the foehn wind (a dry down-slope wind that occours in the lee side of a mountain range) is blowing, you may even see the alps.

The bell-tower is open to the public on weekends, except during worship service.
